Together with the sun and the beach and a wealth
of history and traditions, golf has become one of the main attractions
for visitors to the area, especially in the winter months when it
is difficult or impossible to play elsewhere in Europe.
The Costa del Sol is a true golfer's paradise with
the greatest concentration of golf courses in relation to its geographical
area anywhere in the world. The "Costa del Golf' as it is coming
to be known internationally, has over twenty-seven 18-hole courses
and four 9-hole courses open throughout the year, some of them challenging
courses which have been designed by experts such as Robert Trent
Jones, Gary Player and Peter Alisse.

constructed, and still more are planned for the near future. Both
amateur and professional golfers come to the Costa del Sol. Amateurs
because they can always find the course that suits them best; easy
or difficult; long or short; 9 or 18 holes and professionals because
it is here that such important tournaments as the World Cup and
the Spanish Open are held, among a great many other competitions.
And besides the game itself, golfers can enjoy
the wide range of high quality facilities. Hotel and residential
accommodation are of the highest standard, and together with restaurants,
marinas, leisure and recreation centres are very often situated
right beside the golf courses.
